Page One of Google is just the Start, What’s Next?

New google LogoInternet Marketing is a funny business! We meet a lot of businesses who are obsessed with having their website on page one of Google, what they don’t realise is this is where the fun starts (and the harder work).

So we have spent the last 3 to 6 months getting your website on the first page of Google. We have spent this time vigilantly, checking keywords, monitoring ranking, improving content, speeding up your site and generally making tweaks to set you up for an influx of enquiries. To many clients, they are over the moon with this, especially if they have over taken that “one competitor” who has always been above them (we all have one).

So whats next?

Being first page does not guarentee more sales or more enquiries. In theory, the higher up the rankings, the more visitors you will get, the more enquiries you receive, the more money you make and the quicker you can make your fortune and live on your own desert island. Unfortenately, a lot more needs to be done and can be done.

1. Are your visitors going to the right places?

Unfortunately we get very hung up on ranking and the number of visitors to our sites, rather than their activity once they are there. This is where we monitor your analytics to see how your clients are moving around your site. We check that they are making it to the buy now page or where they can make an enquiry. We also check that they are not stopping at a particular page and coming off the site, as this could highlight a specific issue with that page.

Now we need to fix these issues and continue monitoring the activity on your site.

2. Review your call to Actions.

What do you want people to do whenthey get to your site? Is it obvious what you want people to do? Are people finding your call to actions? This is where we review if people are hitting your call to actions and that they are in the right place. When we look at a new clients site, around 60% of them have their call to action on the 2nd or third fold of the page. Many internet users have given up by then.

3. Dominate page one.

Now that you are on the first page, it is now time to dominate it. Having more than one result on the first page, gives you more authority and improves the click through rate (CTR), especially if you are in two of the top positions. Google “Hypnotherapy training in Guildford.”

4. Maximise your postion with other SERP tools.

What with Google My Business, Google Shopping and the many others, being on the first page of the Google organic rankings, can mean that you are on the second or third fold of the page, so it is important to maximise the opportunities that Google gives us. This where we look at which of these tools will benefit your first page position, to give you more opportunities.

5. More Keywords.

We will also use this time to carry out further keyword research and to optimise your site for more keywords, be them niche terms or more competitive terms. This will obviously open your site to more potential visitors and business.

Whilst all this is going on we are also watching the previous set of keywords and monitoring everything that we have done. SEO is a never ending circle, that needs regular tweaking and changes and remeber the goals posts are often shifted.
